One can only dream that Rockford will see enough demand to proceed with production of these new concepts. As it currently stands... nothing.

[edit] DMS2

The Omnifi DMS2 has grown up and now offers 802.11g wireless connectivity, built-in 60GB swappable hard drive for networked PC content synchronization and storage, DVD-quality streaming video playback (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, and XviD), and high-resolution 1080i JPEG photo display mode for high-definition televisions. On the audio end, however, nothing has really changed, it still streams MP3, WMA, and WAV files -- it is unclear if Omnifi has integrated Windows DRM which will allow playback of music purchased online.

The Omnifi DMS2 should be available in the fall of 2004 with a suggested retail price of $349. (Source: eHomeUpgrade.com - May 17, 2004)

[edit] DMP2

The Omnifi DMP1 was one of the first networked car audio products that gave users the ability to sync up their car's Omnifi hard drive with their home PC's music collection over a wireless connection. Now Omnifi is getting set to introduce the Omnifi DMP2 that will, in addition to streaming music, will stream video (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, and XviD) from its 60GB hard drive for viewing in LCD equipped automobiles. So instead of fumbling around for DVDs on your next road trip, you can pull up "Finding Nemo" at the push of a button.

Other notable features include:

  • Detachable hard drive for in-house synchronization via USB 2.0
  • Wireless 802.11g connectivity
  • Auto or time scheduled synchronization (wirelessly within 150ft)
