Maxima (2000)
From Omnifi Wiki
I added the DMP1 to my 2000 Nissan Maxima with factory stereo (non-Bose).
Step 1 - remove factory stereo.
I followed the instructions on carstereohelp.com
Step 2 - splice wires into factory wires.
I could not find a decent guide that showed the wiring diagram/wire colors for my stereo (factory, non-Bose Clarion PN-2280D). I created my own diagram, and got the information via phone calls to Crutchfield:
Harness 1:
A--B
CDEF
A - no wire attached
B - blue wire
C - no wire attached
D - black wire with yellow stripe
E - light green wire
F - pink wire
- Note - the wires all had silver dots/stripes 'painted' on them.
Harness 2:
GH--IJ
KLMNOP
G - Blue wire with white stripe
H - brown wire
I - red wire with white stripe
J - purple wire
K - blue wire with yellow stripe
L - brown wire with white stripe
M - green wire with white stripe
N - yellow wire
O - red wire with yellow stripe
P - no wire attached
- Note - the wires all had silver dots/stripes 'painted' on them.
Step 3 - Wire it up.
The DMP1 wiring adapter was spliced into factory wiring as follows:
Black - to chassis (ground)
Red - spliced into wire J (purple) in harness 2 as indicated above (ignition switched +12V DC)
Orange - spliced into wire I (red with whote stripe) in harness 2 as indicated above (dimmer)
Yellow - spliced into wire N (yellow) in harness 2 as indicated above (battery +12V DC)
Step 4 - Hook it up.
As the factory stereo has no AUX inputs, there are a couple of options, listed in descending order of desirability:
1. Aux input via AUX adapter:
In my research I found two adapters that work with this model, both of which have red/white RCA inputs that go into the factory CD changer input:
a. SoundGate AUX adapter (models AUXNISS or AUXNISSV2, ~$95) info here
b. USA Spec IPOD Interface (model PA10NIS, ~$120) info here
As both of these are about $100 and up, I did not use either. If I do end up getting one in the future, I would probably go with the PA10NIS as it has an ipod adapter and an AUX input for a little more).
2. Cassette adapter: I have heard that these should be next on the list as FM modulators are the worst choice... so this is the solution I went with. I am using the following items:
a. Sony CPA-9C cassette adapter (~$20) - standard cassette adapter with a 1/8" (3.5 mm) male mini-jack plug which goes into the 274-886 (below). This cassette adapter goes in the factory cassette player (naturally).
b. Radio Shack 274-886 1/8" mini-jack coupler (~$5) - this coupler has two female 1/8" (3.5 mm) mini-jack connectors. The mini-jack plug from cassette adapter goes into one end, the mini-jack plug from the 274-883 audio adapter (below) goes into the other.
c. Radio Shack 274-883 audio adapter (~$6) - this has a male 1/8" (3.5 mm) male mini-jack one one end and female RCA jacks (red/white) on the other. The Male RCA jacks from the wiring adapter go in here.
3. FM Modulator: People think these are the worst way to go, and as I went with the cassette adapter option (above), I didn't research into these much - there are many out there.
So it is in and appears to be working. Any comments/questions, let me know - tom<at>eckerdalumni.com
