[edit] DMP1:
Issue #: issue desc.
- steps to recreate.
firmware in which defect was discovered.
Issue #1: for the songs in the FAV selection, the progress bar for the song does not ever move. The same song, when played from the Media Library displays a moving progress bar, but if the song is added to the FAV's and play it from FAV's, the progress bar no longer works.
DMP1 firmware ver 2.0.315.
Steps to recreate:
a) add a song to your favorites by pressing and holding the FAV button for more than 2 seconds until the message appears that it was added to your favorites. b) press the FAV button quickly to get to the FAV selection. The song that was added most recently will begin to play--> watch the progress bar and it doesn't move any longer. c) when stepping back out to the My Media Library and choosing the same song from any of the other views, the progress bar will work fine.
Issue #2: DMP1 becomes erratic, from non-responsive (requiring ejecting HD) to playing songs even though it is turned off
DMP1 firmware ver 2.0.315.
Steps to recreate:
a) HD inserted into DMP1 - arbitrary number of songs (mp3's) installed, power on DMP1 using ignition. b) Through Artists or Artists/Albums or other means of the My Media, start a song to play c) Alternately allow the DMP1 to resume the last song that was playing (if applicable). This is the more likely scenario. d) In the brief moment between when the DMP1 display shows the song title and the time the song actually starts, press the OFF button on the faceplate, to turn off the DMP1. e) depending on the timing and perhaps other unknown issues one of the following will occur with surprising predictability:
-- faceplate will shut off and screen will go blank. Yet the song will start to play be audible through the Auxilary inputs to the car radio. (DMP1 is not shut off and idle). -- if the DMP1 is turned on at this point (within seconds of shutting it off and the song is not playing), then the faceplate will illuminate but be blank, completely unresponsive. No amount of button presses and dial turns will elicit a response EXCEPT for the power button which toggles it between the OFF and ON states of the LED's but the unit remains unresponsive. The only way to recover is to press the HD Eject. If we are lucky, the HD will eject and the faceplate will indicate that it is doing so. Reinserting the HD will cause a reboot and DMP1 resumes normal operation--otherwise we have to remove power to unit or shut car off. -- sometimes a song will start playing and the unit becomes unresponsive. It cannot be shut off, no other song can be selected, and the HD will NOT eject until the song is over. Playing the song once again does not cause the issue directly, so the song is not the source of the problem.
[edit] DMS1:
Issue #:1 DMS1 can be made to hang whilst listening to LaunchCast.
DMS1 firmware ver 2.0.313.
Steps to recreate:
a) Begin playing a LaunchCast station through the DMS1 b) In the middle of playback, shutdown SimpleCenter by exiting the program on the PC. c) Verify that DMS1 stops playing song and returns to main menu. d) Restart SimpleCenter on the PC. e) Verify that the SimpleCenter PC shows up in the list on DMS1 screen. f) Repeat steps a - e twice more g) After the third time SimpleCenter is shutdown, DMS1 will behung and unresponsive to key presses and inputs. The DMS1 will now require a reboot.
Variations on this theme is possible if the DMS1 loses wireless connectivity to the SimpleCenter PC (which is essentially what happens when the SimpleCenter is shutdown). Flaky connections, interference from other devices, excessive traffic on the wireless, other UPnP devices (such as UPnP-enabled router) might be able to influence the DMS's health in this matter and cause the DMS1 to hang.
Repair this condition by ensuring proper wireless connectivity. This guide is a start. Also, I mention in this article about the Wireless antenna being TOO CLOSE to the WAP.
Wired connections ALWAYS seem to result in 100% uptime, probably because there are no dropped sessions or packets which the DMS1 can't handle.
Although not verified, this condition might manifest itself while playing ShoutCast, regular MP3's or stored streaming media stations etc.
