Cross Reference
- (Confirmed) PST-2500MF Universal Adaptor (for Digital Cameras) - various connectors. This one is particularly good because it has a 5.0 volt setting and has plenty of amperage to spin up the drive motor. $16.99 @ Fry's Electronics and other suppliers. Lumkichi bought this and it works!
- (Unconfirmed) Motorola 180-0711 used in a Palm M515 - unsure of connector sizes
- (Unconfirmed) RadioShack 4.5v 1600mA adapter with a variety of connectors. User Jeff Achtehn bought something like this.
Caution
The following adapter is known NOT TO WORK!
- Jensen JEN500 500mA Universal Adapter. Doesn't have a 5.0 volt setting and cannot drive the HDD enough to spin up the drive motor.
Also, be careful with the voltage settings of the Universal Adapters. The HDD will not power on at all below 4.5 volts, and will emit terrible noises above 6.0 volts. Many Universal Adapters work at some increment of 1.5 volts (the output of a typical Energizer or Duracell). The DMP1 HDD specifies 5.0 volts, find something as close to it as possible without exceeding it.
Here's my experience with the Jensen JEN500: 3.0 v - no lights, no nothing. 4.5 v, the red and green LED's come on, but the motor doesn't spin up. 6.0 v, the red and green LED's come on. I can even hear the drive trying to spin up, and the heads moving but doesn't work. 7.0 v, the lights come on and the drive emits a loud "Beeeeep!" and the drive doesn't seem to work at all. Needless to say, I haven't tried the 9.0 and 12.0 v settings.
At 6.0 volts, the PC recognizes the HDD as an omnifi drive, but reports an error and says the device may be unusable (of course, the drive motor isn't spinning).
